Tania Dimitrova-Klein is a trainer, expert and consultant in hair extensions and long hair. She is regularly contacted by the media for her expert advice.  She has been in the hair extension and hair beauty industry for over 16 years. She was able to develop her own techniques, which allowed her to distinguish herself and makes her poses so characteristic and different from what we are used to seeing. 

What is special about Tania Dimitrova-Klein?

Her art lies in a particular approach, her ability to combine colors, her meticulous selection to obtain a perfect combination between color, texture, length, density and natural movement in order to guarantee an optimal, natural and invisible transformation.

Her seasoned eye allowing the realization of very personalized extension poses and her global vision of a result is specific to each client, which has earned her the best reputation over the years.

The Italian extension brand Giambertone quickly noticed this difference and asked her 16 years ago to represent the brand in France and in French-speaking countries in order to train and supply hairdressers.  Since then, Tania perfects her knowledge, in particular on the origins and qualities of hair as well as on the process of manufacturing extensions, from the raw material to the treatment and up to the development of the final extensions. She also tests all the processes herself in order to better understand the interactions of hair, keratin, bleaching and coloring.

This also leads her to collaborate with many prestigious brands, in particular the Jean Louis David group which needed her services to set up the "service extensions" in its French and European salons with the mission of choosing the best quality and laying technique corresponding to their expectations, as well as training and advising the trainers of the brand.

The Sephora group also set up its “Extension Bar” and trained the employees, thanks to Tania's supervision and instructions.

After having trained numerous hairdressers, Tania decided to share her experience with the general public by opening her salon under the name of "HAIR GLAM" in 2004 in Paris which moved in 2011 to the most prestigious area of Paris, in the 16th arrondissement.

Her hair extension and hair beauty center is made up of experts, color stylists and makeover advisers, all trained by Tania in order to guarantee a service of laying extensions and care of high quality always in the concern to fully respect the client's hair.

"The hair extensions industry has grown tremendously since I started and as with any big success, there is some good as well as some not so good. The positive aspect of this development lies above all in having given access to the greatest possible number of dreams of length and volume that many would never have hoped to achieve one day. This popularization, however, did not influence the price of quality hair, on the contrary, because the more demand exploded, the more the scarcity tears off at golden prices, which opened the door to a parallel market of lesser quality, even mediocre under various names to meet this constantly changing demand. The flip side of the accessibility medal has also spawned an astounding number of enthusiasts willing to do anything to sell good quality nicknames at low prices. What has caused and still causes considerable harm to real experts because a bad experience is generally unacceptable and a disappointed client whose hair has been damaged by bad extensions will not repeat the experience and will wrongly catalog all extensions as "Dangerous".

I often hear my customers tell me that it is difficult to make the right choice among the multitude of salons offering extensions and my answer is the following: always call on an extension specialist because a good hairdresser is not necessarily a good expert in extensions and this specialization requires real experience. A specialist performs a large number of poses and responds to a multitude of diverse and varied requests. 

And my second piece of advice is: trust yourself and listen to your instinct to know who you are dealing with. For that, call the salon, check them out, ask as many questions as possible.  If the stylist cannot answer or if the answers do not seem consistent, find someone else as a good expert must know how to answer your questions and advise you without hesitation.

"To help you a little, here are the two main questions to ask when you go to a hair salon:

1. What technique of installing extensions do you practice?

Let me present you the four main categories:

• Glued techniques (hot glued keratin, cold glued keratin by ultrasound, cold glued weaving on the scalp…)
• Fixed techniques (ring, micro ring, nano ring, clips…). These techniques are all fixed cold.
• The technique with cold adhesive tapes.
• Sewing techniques (sewing weaving, thread extensions, etc.). Also cold.

So these techniques should not be confused with the general terms known as hot or cold which generate doubt in the minds of customers who think that the term cold is synonymous with harmless which is not always the case, especially when the extensions are pasted.

Your choice must therefore be based on the criteria WITH or WITHOUT glue *. (* glue is often called keratin).

2. What type(s) of hair do you offer?

The origin of the hair is a very important selection criteria, but it becomes increasingly complicated to find it out yourself because nowadays, the experts no longer speak only of provenance, but of:

• Grades A, AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAAA, 6A, 7A on which we sometimes add a + to evoke the quality.
• Remy Hair when the scales of the hair all go in the same direction while respecting the root and the tip (unlike hair harvested in bulk which can end up in any direction and thus becomes tangled).
• Human Hair as opposed to synthetic and yak hair. The simple mention "Human Hair" does not guarantee that it is 100%, so this must be clarified.
• Virgin Hair means that the hair is virgin of any treatment, collected in a ponytail on one and the same person.

All these criteria should be considered as an indication as there are no standards or means of control imposed at present.

Why does the origin of the extensions remain a good selection criteria?

The treatment undergone by Indian or Asian hair or other naturally dark hair is very heavy of consequence on the final quality of the extensions contrary to a European hair which will require only a simple coloring or a lightening, or a Russian hair which will be natural or only embellished with a slight reflection.

A natural dark hair can be of good quality before treatment and become unreadable after several chemical treatments to bleach it, acid baths to refine it in the aim to make it compatible in terms of appearance with a European hair.

Clients with dark hair who want to become blonde, must be informed that the hair will be very sensitized and that it will take several steps before obtaining the desired result. For hair intended for extensions, there is no longer a root that can nourish the hair or lubricate it, so it is twice as exposed to bleaching treatments.

The logic therefore is that one should favor naturally varied hair qualities in terms of color and the conclusion goes without saying, hair that does not require heavy treatments will always be of better quality than naturally dark hair.

European and Russian hair naturally respect all the best selection criteria mentioned above:

• Highly high grade due to the absence of heavy processing
• Always Remy Hair for these high-end categories
• Always 100% Human Hair for these high-end categories
• Virgin Hair matching the color or very little colored because the demand imposes a choice of very varied colors not always available naturally.
